CNG position
Hyundai is a factory-CNG participant in the entry segment, offering dual-cylinder CNG variants across three models, with no dealer-fitted kit programme and no announced plans to extend CNG to mid-size or larger SUVs.
CNG strategy
Hyundai Motor India has built a focused factory-fitted CNG portfolio centred on three models: the Grand i10 Nios hatchback, the Aura compact sedan, and the Exter micro-SUV. All three use a shared 1.2-litre petrol-CNG engine producing a claimed 69 hp and 95.2 Nm in CNG mode, and all feature a dual-cylinder CNG tank setup — a key differentiator that preserves more boot space compared with single-cylinder arrangements used by some rivals.
The dual-cylinder configuration is a deliberate engineering choice by Hyundai India. By splitting the CNG storage into two smaller cylinders mounted under the boot floor or in the boot area, the brand claims to offer a better balance between luggage capacity and range. The Aura CNG carries a claimed 65-litre tank, the Exter 65 litres, and the Grand i10 Nios a similar capacity, with claimed efficiency figures ranging from around 19 km/kg (Exter) to 28.4 km/kg (Aura) depending on variant and conditions.
Hyundai does not currently offer dealer-fitted or aftermarket CNG kits as part of its official programme; all CNG variants are factory-fitted and carry the manufacturer's warranty. The CNG lineup is positioned in the entry-to-mid segment (₹5.55 lakh–₹9.46 lakh ex-showroom, claimed), targeting high-mileage urban and semi-urban buyers for whom fuel savings are the primary purchase driver. Automatic transmission is available on select CNG variants of the Grand i10 Nios and Aura, a relatively rare feature in the factory-CNG segment.
Hyundai has not publicly announced plans to extend factory CNG to larger models such as the Venue or Creta as of mid-2026. The brand continues to expand its electric vehicle range in parallel, positioning CNG and EVs as complementary offerings for different buyer segments rather than competing priorities.
