CNG mileage and running cost

The Toyota Taisor CNG carries a certified mileage of 28.51 km/kg, tested under Rule 115 of CMVR, 1989 by an approved test agency — this is the official ARAI-equivalent figure and is the authority for this car. By comparison, the petrol 1.2L NA variant returns 21.71 km/l (MT) or 22.79 km/l (AMT). At typical CNG pump prices of around ₹75–80/kg in major Indian cities (versus ₹100–105/l for petrol), the per-kilometre running cost on CNG works out to roughly ₹2.6–2.8/km against ₹4.5–5/l on petrol — a saving of nearly 40% per kilometre for city commuters.

The 55-litre CNG tank (water equivalent: 37 litres) gives a theoretical range of approximately 500–520 km on a full CNG fill at claimed efficiency, while the 37-litre petrol tank adds a further 700+ km of range in petrol mode. This bi-fuel setup makes the Taisor CNG genuinely practical for both city CNG runs and highway petrol legs without range anxiety.

For a buyer covering 1,500 km per month primarily on CNG, the monthly fuel bill works out to roughly ₹3,900–4,200 — compared to ₹6,750–7,875 for the equivalent petrol variant. The payback on the CNG premium over the base E Petrol MT (approximately ₹1.02 lakh) can be achieved in 12–18 months for high-mileage urban users.

CNG kit, tank, and boot space

The CNG kit on the Taisor is factory-fitted by Toyota on the production line — not a dealer-installed aftermarket unit. This is a critical distinction: factory fitment means the engine management system is calibrated from the factory for CNG combustion, the cylinder is type-approved and pressure-tested to OEM standards, and the full 3-year / 1,00,000 km manufacturer warranty applies without any carve-outs for the CNG system.

The CNG cylinder has a water-equivalent capacity of 37 litres (55-litre geometric volume), which is a reasonably sized tank for this segment. The cylinder is mounted in the boot, as is standard for factory CNG setups in this class. Toyota's official brochure does not separately state the boot space with the CNG cylinder fitted — the 308-litre figure applies to the petrol variants. Buyers should expect the usable boot floor to be partially occupied by the cylinder, similar to the Maruti Fronx CNG on which this car is based; real-world boot access is reduced but the 60:40 split rear seat can be folded to compensate for larger loads.

The CNG tank capacity is listed as 9.9 kg by Autocar India's variant-level spec sheet, which aligns with the 37-litre water-equivalent figure. The petrol tank remains at 37 litres, unchanged from the petrol variants.

Performance on CNG

In CNG mode, the 1.2L K-Series engine produces 57 kW (77.5 PS) and 98.5 Nm of torque — down from 66 kW (89.73 PS) and 113 Nm in petrol mode. This power drop of approximately 13.5% is typical for factory CNG conversions and is most noticeable during overtaking manoeuvres at highway speeds or when climbing steep gradients with a full load.

The 5-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission offered with the CNG variant; there is no AMT option. The gearbox is well-suited to urban driving, with a light clutch action inherited from the Maruti platform. In city traffic, the reduced torque is barely perceptible, and the engine's Dual Jet, Dual VVT setup helps maintain reasonable throttle response even in CNG mode.

The kerb weight of the CNG variant is 1,055–1,060 kg — approximately 85–90 kg heavier than the equivalent petrol MT — due to the cylinder and associated hardware. This additional weight is noticeable on tight corners but does not significantly affect the car's composed ride quality, which is one of the Taisor's acknowledged strengths across all variants.

Cabin, space, and tech

The Taisor E CNG is the entry-level CNG grade, so some of the higher-trim features — such as the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, and head-up display — are not available on this variant. The E CNG gets a 7-inch Smartplay Cast infotainment unit with wired smartphone connectivity, a part-digital instrument cluster, manual air conditioning, and tilt-adjustable (non-telescopic) steering.

Cabin space is generous for the segment, with a 2,520 mm wheelbase and 3,995 mm overall length. Five adults can be seated comfortably, though taller passengers may find the angled roofline slightly restrictive on headroom in the rear. The 60:40 split rear seat adds practicality when boot space is needed. Front occupants get a sliding centre armrest and adequate storage cubbies.

Standard features on the E CNG include power windows (front and rear), Bluetooth connectivity, rear parcel tray, and bottle holders in all doors. The absence of rear AC vents and USB ports is a notable omission at this price point, though these are available on higher petrol trims.

Safety and ADAS

The Toyota Taisor CNG comes with six airbags as standard — dual front, front side, and curtain airbags — across all variants including the base E CNG. This is a genuine segment strength: many rivals at this price point offer only two airbags on entry variants. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Hold Assist, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchors are also standard across the entire Taisor range.

Reverse parking sensors with an infographic display are standard on the E CNG. A rear-view camera is available from the S+ variant upward, so the E CNG does not get one. The Taisor has not been rated by Bharat NCAP or Euro NCAP as of September 2026. No ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) features such as autonomous emergency braking or lane-keep assist are offered on any Taisor variant per the official brochure.

All seat belts are 3-point ELR type, and a seat belt reminder with lamp and buzzer is standard for both front and rear occupants. The anti-theft security system is also standard across all variants.

CNG variants and pricing

The Toyota Taisor CNG is offered in a single variant: the E CNG MT, priced at ₹8.45 lakh ex-showroom (as of September 2026, per multiple Tier-1 sources including CarWale and ZigWheels). This positions it at a premium of ₹1.02 lakh over the base E Petrol MT (₹7.43 lakh) and ₹12,000 below the S Petrol MT (₹8.33 lakh).

There is no mid or top CNG trim — the E CNG is the only factory CNG option in the Taisor lineup. Buyers wanting features like LED headlamps, a larger touchscreen, automatic climate control, or a rear-view camera must step up to the petrol variants. This is a deliberate positioning choice: the CNG variant targets cost-conscious urban buyers for whom running cost is the primary consideration.

Toyota's standard warranty of 3 years / 1,00,000 km applies, with an extended warranty available up to 5 years / 2,20,000 km — a meaningful ownership assurance for a CNG powertrain.

How it compares

The Taisor CNG's closest rival is the Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG, which shares the same platform, engine, and factory CNG setup and is priced slightly lower (starting around ₹7.51 lakh for the CNG variant). The Fronx CNG offers an identical 28.51 km/kg claimed mileage. The Taisor differentiates itself with Toyota-specific exterior styling, a different grille and bumper design, and Toyota's service network and brand perception — though Maruti's service reach is arguably wider.

The Tata Nexon CNG (twin-cylinder setup, claimed 24 km/kg) and Hyundai Exter CNG (claimed 19.4 km/kg) are other factory CNG crossovers in the segment, but neither matches the Taisor's 28.51 km/kg certified figure. The Nexon CNG does offer a larger boot with its under-floor twin-cylinder arrangement. The Maruti Fronx CNG remains the most direct benchmark given the shared underpinnings.

Who should buy it

The Toyota Taisor CNG is best suited to urban commuters in cities with good CNG infrastructure — Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune — who cover 1,200–2,000 km per month and want to minimise running costs without sacrificing factory reliability or warranty coverage. The factory-fitted kit and Toyota's service network make it a low-risk CNG ownership proposition.

Buyers who prioritise features — a large touchscreen, automatic gearbox, rear camera, or ADAS — should look at the petrol variants or consider the Fronx CNG if budget is the primary driver. The E CNG's feature set is deliberately lean, and the single-variant CNG lineup means there is no upgrade path within the CNG range. For pure cost-per-kilometre efficiency with Toyota badge assurance, however, the Taisor CNG is a strong choice in its segment.
